Personally Identifiable Information ("PII"): The Hispanic Bar Association of DC ("HBA- DC") collects, uses, and discloses certain PII in the course of conducting its business and interacting with HBA-DC members and non-members. PII includes name, mailing address, employment address, telephone numbers, email addresses, and information relating to law school or current or past employment.
How We Collect Your Information: HBA-DC collects information from you, whether as an HBA-DC member or as a non-member, in several ways, including:
(1) Electronic mail. You may send us PII in any electronic mail message.
(2) Registration. By completing a membership application online or in hardcopy or by registering for events online you will be providing us with PII. This and other information that you choose to provide may also be available on your public membership profile, if you choose to have one.
(3) Participation in Programs. We may collect PII from you if you complete certain forms to participate in HBA-DC programs or if you complete questionnaires relating to the HBA-DC's programs and activities. In addition, attendance at HBA-DC events constitutes permission to be photographed and to have your image included in website postings.
Use of Your Information
How We Use Your Information: HBA-DC uses the PII it collects to conduct its business, including:
(1) HBA-DC Programs. We may use the PII we collect from you to further the HBA-DC's program goals.
(2) Questionnaires. We may contact you in response to PII that you provide to us when you complete certain questionnaires, such as pro bono or employer diversity questionnaires, and we may use the PII provided in these questionnaires to improve HBA-DC member benefits and programs.
Disclosure of Your Information
To Whom We Disclose Your Information: HBA-DC discloses the PII it collects to conduct its business as follows:
(1) Disclosure to HBA-DC. We may disclose your PII to certain persons within HBA-DC, including Board and Committee members and other volunteers, in order to conduct our business. For instance, PII that you provide in forms to participate in programs will be shared with the relevant HBA-DC Committee charged with that program and members participating in the program (e.g., the Student Affairs Committee when completing a mentoring program application form to match mentoring participants). We may also disclose PII to the HBA-DC Board to conduct Board business, for instance, to consider an endorsement request.
(2) Disclosure to Third Parties. We may also disclose PII to third parties in order to conduct HBA-DC business. For instance, if you complete a pro bono questionnaire, that information may be shared with the public interest organizations, schools, and other organizations who have expressed interest in assistance or participation from our members. We share your name with organizations, such as other voluntary bar associations, with who we cosponsor events if you have indicated that you will attend. To the extent necessary, in addition to what we have described herein, we may disclose PII to such third parties as the website vendor (yourmembership.com), our credit card processor (Bluepay), our event planners, and other third parties with whom HBA-DC works to provide benefits and services.
Sensitive Information: Please be aware that e-mail is not necessarily secure and can be intercepted. If your communication is very sensitive, or includes personal information, you may want to send it by postal mail instead. Before you contact us by postal mail, telephone, or electronically, please be aware that the material you submit may be seen by various HBA-DC officers, committee members, volunteers, and other designees.
Passwords: Our website, through our vendor yourmembership.com, has the following password controls. Passwords must contain at least 6 characters and at least one number.
Website Data Protection: The HBA-DC website (through our vendor yourmembership.com) uses the following security protocols. The vendor is PCI ("Payment Card Industry Security Standard") compliant and is audited quarterly by SecurityMetrics Corporation. SSL ("Secure Socket Layer"), which helps make sites secure, is used to protect sensitive information in transit. When financial account numbers are stored, they are stored using triple DES encryption and remain in the system for only a limited amount of time. After this time the information is masked whereby credit card numbers are wiped and only the last 4 digits are saved and encrypted. If real-time credit card processing is utilized, financial information is never stored and only the last 4 digits are saved and encrypted. The only exception to this is if the customer chooses to utilize the system's recurring payment capabilities. When a recurring transaction occurs, the entire credit card number is stored using the encryption methods listed above for the duration of the recurring transaction event.
NOTICE: We will not collect PII about you when you visit our site, unless you choose to provide such information to us.

While the information on this site may be about legal issues, it is not legal advice. This website contains links to websites not maintained by the HBA-DC. The HBA-DC is not responsible for the contents of any linked site or any link contained in a linked site nor does inclusion of a link in our web site to another website imply recommendation, approval or endorsement by HBA-DC of the site. The Hispanic Bar Association of the District of Columbia ("HBA-DC") welcomes you to our social community. The use of "you” and "your” refers to member(s) of The HBA-DC social community, available through the hbadc.org website ("Website") and "we,” "us,” or "our” refers to HBA-DC.
The goal of our Social Community is to encourage discussion and exchange of ideas between members of the The HBA-DC community. Our Social Community is available to registered members of The HBA-DC who have created a public profile on our Website. Members elect whether to make their profile information public during registration, and members can change their election at any time. Making profile information public gives members the ability to contact other members using our Social Community networking features.
We welcome your views, comments and other communications, photographs, images, illustrations, ideas, suggestions, designs, videos, music and audio creations ("User Content") within the Social Community and within pages and applications created or administered by The HBA-DC (the "Pages”), and encourage self-expression while respecting the dignity, rights and property of others.
Content on the Pages does not reflect the opinions or ideals of The HBA-DC or its employees, affiliates, or agents. The HBA-DC does not represent or warrant the accuracy of any statement or product claims on the Pages.
